HELLO, I AM

LUIS GOMEZ

More than a decade and a half in documentary photography and video. My work has appeared in international media, editorial projects, and tourism and brand commissions – always shaped by my travels and the twelve years I spent living in Asia. Want me to tell your story – or the story of your destination, your product, your brand?

“I’d love to hear from you.”

The Senseless Path

Life is sometimes linear, predictable — nothing changes for decades, the way a river reaches a valley, forms a lake, and stays there for who knows how long. But other times, after a long stretch of stillness, life suddenly speeds up so fast it’s frightening — everything you knew disappears around you, and you’re pulled into an entirely new chapter.

A New Beginning

That’s what happened at the end of 2009, when my life fell apart. By early 2010, I was on a direct flight to Kathmandu, having given up everything I owned except a few clothes and a camera. My old job, friends, and family faded into the background too — there simply wasn’t room for them, not with everything that was happening. That six-month trip would end up leading me to settle in China for the next 12 years of my life.
Commercial photography paid the bills, sure, but I never stopped traveling — exploring other regions of China, discovering new countries across Asia, always with a camera in hand, always chasing the next story worth telling through images.

Coming Back Home

I returned to Spain in 2022 with more than 12 years’ worth of photographs and countless stories to tell. Images I’d never published before. Moments that permanently changed the way I think, the way I see the world — and the way I photograph it, something I keep doing on every trip I take.

Professional Experience

My editorial work began in China, with China Daily News, through a program designed to bring in foreign talent and boost tourism visibility for certain provinces across the country. I also collaborated with Sina Weibo — known in the West as «China’s Twitter» — on a project supporting an under-resourced school. Less regularly, I’ve had work published in local papers across cities like Xiamen and in Beijing Daily, as well as in Hi Shanghai, a Korean magazine covering China.

Back in Spain, I work with several agencies on photography and video projects for local tourism and related businesses. It’s work that means a lot to me — the chance to travel, meet new people, and discover places I’d never seen before.
